Why does the job exist?
The Attorney will:
- Provide legal services on behalf of the Health Care Authority (HCA) Child Support Services Division (CSSD) by providing quality legal advice, representation, and advocacy.
How does it get done?
The Attorney is responsible for:
- Drafting, reviewing, and evaluating legal documents, pleadings (Petitions for Parentage/Child Support, Motions, Orders, administrative enforcement actions, etc.);
- Conducting discovery, interviewing child support parties, and negotiating settlements;
- Reviewing regulations, legislation, legal precedents, and internal policy and procedures and providing legal advice to Child Support staff;
- Appearing in Court and administrative hearings, may make recommendations for and assist in appellate proceedings;
- Researching and analyzing a variety of child support issues, and proposes strategy on specific child support matters;
- Interacting extensively with pro-se parties.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has:
- Experience in public sector law, family law and/or Federal or State Child Support programs, including handling pro-se parties;
- Excellent legal writing and verbal skills;
- Excellent computer skills and is technologically savvy.
Minimum Qualification
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law. Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules 15-301.1 and 15-301.2 NMRA). Employment Requirements
All Attorney classifications must be and remain licensed as an attorney, in good standing, by the Supreme Court of New Mexico, or licensed as an attorney and in good standing by the highest court of another state and eligible pursuant to the limited license provisions (See Rules 15-301.1 and 15-301.2 NMRA).
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal history background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Must obtain a defensive Driving Certificate.
