Accounting Director
Grace Fellowship Church is prayerfully searching for our next Accounting Director to lead our accounting & finance team and help us be good stewards of the finances God has entrusted us with. The ideal candidate will be a Jesus follower with a passion for sharing the gospel, as well as a proven track record of success in the accounting field.

The Role
The Accounting Director is responsible for all activities of the finance & accounting functions including, but not limited to, general ledger, budgeting, accounts payable / receivable, banking, gifts, and financial policies. This role ensures the integrity of Grace Fellowship’s financial matters through proficiency in accounting, team leadership, effective improvements to processes, accurate reporting and collaborative problem-solving.
The Accounting Director leads the accounting & finance department while establishing and overseeing financial policies and processes to meet our mission, vision, strategy, and goals in support of pastors and staff in ministry. This role reports to the Operations Pastor and works out of our office in Katy, Texas.
Responsibilities
Reporting & Financial Analysis
- Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to church leadership.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, forecast giving, and provide strategic insights to ministries.
- Maintain a comprehensive financial dashboard to provide weekly giving summaries and track key financial indicators.
- Provide budget reports to ministry leaders and assist them with expense coding and management.
Accounting & Bookkeeping
Oversee all bookkeeping functions, including maintaining the general ledger, balance sheet, and chart of accounts using our accounting software (ShelbyNext).Assist in switching accounting software to Quickbooks.Manage the full month-end and year-end close processes.Lead team to ensure accurate processing of all financial transactions, including deposits, accounts payable / receivable, check requests, and wire transfers.Supervise team to confirm the timely collection of W-9 forms and preparation of 1099s.If necessary, advise on and remit all required sales tax payments (e.g., bookstore and merchandise sales).Financial Reconciliation & Auditing
Reconcile all financial accounts, including bank statements, credit cards, and fund balances.Maintain seamless reconciliation of online giving transactions on Planning Center Online and Managed Missions.Serve as the primary point of contact for external audits providing a smooth and compliant process for the coordination and facilitation of all data with relevant stakeholders.Financial Leadership & Policy
Leading accounting & finance team (2 direct reports), managing and supporting them.Co-lead the annual budget process, building new annual budgets and monitoring spending.Develop and implement financial policies and best practices to ensure compliance and fiscal integrity.Serve as backup for payroll administration and manage contribution statement preparation.Take on other financial duties and special projects as assigned by the Operations Pastor.Specific Characteristics

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or related field.7+ years of experience in the accounting field.Experience working in a church.Proficiency in Quickbooks, Planning Center Online, Microsoft 365 Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro.Be able to teach and be teachable.CPA licensed a plus but not required.Our desire is that the Accounting Director makes Grace Fellowship Church their regularly attended church home.Additional Information
Salary & Benefits
The salary will be commensurate with experience. This position is an exempt, salaried position. Our benefits are outlined in the Employee Handbook, currently including paid vacation & paid health insurance for employee (only), maternity / paternity leave, life insurance, long & short-term disability insurance, and a 403(b) plan with employer contribution.
Working Hours
Our staff is encouraged to develop a working schedule that maximizes both time with family and productive time accomplishing the job. The position is 40 hours per week. The working days are Monday – Friday, occasionally shifting to Sunday through Thursday.
Work Authorization
The Accounting Director must be authorized to work in United States under Federal requirements.
