What This Role Is…
The Staff Data Engineer is a technical leader responsible for architecting, building, and optimizing CITY Furniture’s enterprise data ecosystem. This role designs scalable data platforms, drives best practices, leads delivery of complex data solutions, and ensures the reliability and quality of data powering analytics, reporting, and data science. Staff Data Engineer requires deep engineering expertise, strong critical thinking, independent problem-solving, and the ability to influence technical direction across the Data Services group. Your contributions will ensure the success of the Technology department at CITY Furniture.

Location : Hybrid / Tamarac Corporate office
Department / Sub-Department : Information Technology / Data and Analytics
Salary : $110,000 - $140,000
What You’ll Do
As a Staff Data Engineer, your primary responsibilities will be :
Hands-On Engineering :
- Build, optimize, and maintain complex ETL / ELT pipelines across cloud and on-prem environments
- Develop and maintain data models supporting analytics, operational reporting, and machine learning workflows
- Lead root-cause investigations and implement long-term solutions
- Implement data quality monitoring, observability practices, and lineage standards
Technical Leadership :
Lead solution design and architecture within your assigned engineering areaWork with other Team Leads to define and maintain engineering standards and best practicesReview technical designs and perform code reviews to ensure high-quality engineering outputMake technical decisions for your workstream while ensuring consistency across the broader engineering functionTeam Leadership and Coordination :
Mentor, coach, and develop Data Engineers across various skill levelsContribute to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and workstream coordination alongside other Team LeadsManage workload distribution and drive execution within your engineering workstreamServe as a technical escalation point for engineering challengesEnsure consistent delivery of scalable, well-documented, production-ready pipelines and data productsAdditional duties and responsibilities as a Staff Data Engineer :
Cross-Functional CollaborationCoordinate engineering direction with other Team Leads to maintain a unified strategyCollaborate with Data Analytics, Data Science, BI, Product, and business stakeholders to define requirements and solution approachesCommunicate timelines, risks, technical challenges, and architectural decisions clearlyParticipate in long-term data platform and infrastructure planningAdheres to all assigned Standard Work and Role and Responsibilities for your role.Additional duties may be assigned as needed, beyond those listed in the responsibilities. Proven leadership in guiding engineering teams through complex technical challenges and delivering high-quality solutions.Expertise in large-scale data architecture, including distributed systems, streaming patterns, and advanced data pipeline design.Strong SQL and performance optimization skills for complex queries and scalable solutions.Ability to select and implement technologies that ensure long-term scalability and reliability.Clear communication skills to explain technical concepts and align priorities across diverse stakeholders.Strategic problem-solving to translate ambiguous requirements into actionable engineering plans.Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities for system reliability and performance.Influence and collaboration across multiple workstreams to drive engineering direction and alignment.What’s Required…
Education & Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.7-10 years of hands-on data engineering experience building complex data systemsDemonstrated success in technical leadership or team leadership rolesProven ability to deliver production-grade, enterprise-scale data systemsWork Environment & Schedule :

Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Google WorkspaceStrong knowledge of SQL, PythonExperience with cloud integration, APIs, and data orchestration toolsAdvanced optimization and performance tuningExpert in ETL / ELT frameworks and patternsStrong Python engineering for pipelines, automation, and APIsExperience with real-time and batch data processingStrong data modeling skills (OLTP, OLAP, dimensional design)Experience with data governance, lineage, cataloging, and observability toolsProficiency with cloud data platforms and distributed computeExperience with DB2, Denodo, and data virtualization technologiesFamiliarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt) and Git-based developmentExperience with REST APIs, CDC technologies, and AWS services (S3, Batch, Lambda, IAM, EC2)Understanding of BI ecosystems such as Power BI and CognosCertifications / Licenses (highly preferred) :
