When the families were told by doctors to sign over guardianship and send their child to a state institution, the parents responded with passion, ferocity, and commitment which established what we now know, 70 years later, as Great Bay Services. Serving over 200 families from Hampton, New Hampshire to Portland, Maine, Great Bay Services empowers adults with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and autism to fulfill their lives’ potential as valued members of the communities we serve.

Summary :
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are part of a team who provide community-based support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is done one-on-one or part of a group. The support provided promotes overall community involvement and independence for the individuals we support. The support is tailored to the goals of each individual based on their individual service agreement. Activities may include but are not limited to yoga, pottery, cooking, music, volunteering, and physical fitness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Always ensure the health and safety of members.Provide instructional support while assisting members with the implementation of their yearly individual service agreement while encouraging independence.Promote quality community connections for members while seeking and developing opportunities for new experiences and connections.Timely completion of all required paperwork (i.e. : email correspondence, daily notes, mileage logs, timecards, progress notes and incident reports).Provide transportation for members in the community, often using your own personal vehicle (mileage in reimbursed).Be a positive role model with strong advocacy toward member rights and choice.Attend and participate in all required meetings (i.e. staff meetings, ISA meetings).Support individuals of all abilities including those with personal care needs and behavioral accommodations. DSPs will be trained accordingly and should have a firm understanding of the requirements of the member(s) they are supporting.Exposure to bodily fluids noting that Great Bay Services uses universal precautions.Excellent written and verbal communication skillsAttendance is an essential function of this roleQualifications :
High School Diploma or EquivalentCompletion of TB TestPrior experience working with individuals with intellectual and / or developmental disabilities preferredCertified DSPs preferred; training will be provided if neededFirst Aid and CPR certified; training will be provided if neededHe-M 1201 Administration of Medications in Developmental Services Programs training will be provided to those candidates without itValid Driver’s License with a legally registered & inspected vehicleCarry mandatory auto insurance of no less than 100K / 300KBasic computer skillsPatience, Empathy, and CreativityMust pass routine background checks including criminal, motor vehicle, DHHS, and others required to comply with Medicaid funding.
