Job Title: Licensed Counselor
Department: Clinical Services
Locations: TN (Johnson City, Newport, Greenville, Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Fountain City, Sparta, or Tullahoma).
Summary:
The Licensed Counselor provides treatment and casework services to patients in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies. This role involves timely documentation of services, identification of patient needs across physical, psychological, social, and spiritual domains, and responsible management of related expenditures. Travel may be required.
Supervision & Evaluation:
Performance evaluations are conducted through facility monitoring, direct observation, staff meetings, in-services, management meetings, individual meetings, improvement processes, strategic planning, and annual competency reviews.
Physical & Work Conditions:
- Sedentary and ambulant work with occasional physical exertion (e.g., lifting 30+ pounds).
- Ability to support patient weight in emergencies.
- Must be able to see, stoop, sit, stand, bend, reach, and be mobile (with or without accommodation).
- Must have acceptable hearing and communication abilities (verbal and written).
- Must be emotionally stable and capable of managing stressful interactions with mentally and physically ill or emotionally upset individuals.
- Risk of exposure to infectious materials; adherence to Universal Precautions is mandatory.
- Must comply with workplace violence prevention, ADA, EEOC, and corporate compliance programs.
Education:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Professional Counseling, or a related clinical field.
- Licensure must allow independent practice in treating mental and substance use disorders.
Experience:
- Experience working with individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
Licensure (State-Specific):
Special Requirements:
- Maintain appropriate state licensure.
- Knowledge of applicable state regulations and 42 CFR Section 8.12.
- Adherence to professional standards and ethical codes (e.g., NAADAC).
Clinical Services:
- Conduct assessments using ASAM criteria and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide counseling services, education, and support for opioid use disorder treatment.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Coordinate care with medical professionals and community agencies.
- Advocate for patients and facilitate access to social services (e.g., housing, food, probation/parole).
Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Use toxicology results as clinical tools, not punitive measures.
- Document progress notes and meet counseling unit requirements.
Team Collaboration & Development:
- Participate in staff meetings, supervision sessions, and program development.
- Assist in program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Support organizational goals and lead by example.
Administrative Duties:
- Conduct patient intake and orientation.
- Prepare interpretative summaries, transition plans, and discharge summaries.
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to the organization's code of conduct.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
