Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
St. Croix Health is looking for a part-time (0.6 FTE) CNA to work in our Med / Surg department. This position will work day shifts (7am - 7 : 30 pm), every third weekend and every third holiday.
The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for performing many basic care tasks for patients, like grooming, dressing, bathing, eating and exercising. They also assist the nursing staff with medical tasks like taking blood, monitoring vitals with medical equipment and reporting patient behavior and wellbeing. Their role is to ensure patients are comfortable and well cared working under the scope of a Registered Nurse.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Assist patients to perform ADLs, such as getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, standing, walking, or exercising
- Delivers efficient / excellent care to all patients on the unit. Duties include performing ADL's, transferring, ambulation, dressing, toileting, turning and repositioning, feeding, bathing, etc.
- Keeps rooms and patient care supplies clean including changing soiled linen, emptying commodes or bedpans
- Turn or reposition bedridden patients
- Answer patient call signals to determine patients' needs
- Assist patients to eat or drink
- Undress, wash, and dress patients who are unable to do so themselves
- Lift or assist others to lift patients to move them on and off beds
- Supply, collect, or empty bedpans
- Wash, groom, shave, or drape patients to prepare them for surgery, treatment, or examination
2. Works directly with the care team to deliver quality patient care
Communicates openly with team members about changes to meet needs of patients and their familiesReports pertinent observations or patient requests to the RNReports any skin issues to the RNCommunicate with nurse about changes in patient care to meet the patients' needsAssist nurse in operation of medical equipment or provision of patient careApply clean dressings, slings, stockings, or support bandages, under the direction of the nurse3. Maintains unit order, cleanliness and safety.
Keeps unit and patient rooms orderly completes checklists to ensure stocking and unit maintenance is completedSends work orders as appropriateInitiates additional cleaning as necessary without prompting, e.g., defrosting refrigerators and organizing cupboardsClean and sanitize patient rooms, bathrooms, examination rooms, and other patient areasRestock patient rooms with personal hygiene itemsStock or issue medical supplies4. Document or report observations of patient behavior, complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses or in EMR
Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure patient receives appropriate dietObserve or examine patients to detect symptoms that may require medical attention, such as bruises, open wounds, etc.Communicate with patients to ascertain feelings or need for assistance or social and emotional supportResponds to patient needs in a timely manner; demonstrates use of safety equipment.Requirements
Current WI Nurse Aide registry requiredBLS certification required (through American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS course)Competencies :
