The Network Engineer II is a critical role within our IT infrastructure team, focused on designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, high-performance enterprise networks. This 6-month+ contract position offers the opportunity to work on advanced networking projects involving Layer 2–Layer 7 technologies, including routing, firewalls, Wi-Fi infrastructure, and Network Access Control (NAC). The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in enterprise networking, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate across teams to enhance network reliability, security, and scalability. With an option-to-hire and fee waiver after 6 months, this role provides a clear path for long-term engagement. The position is onsite in Newport News, VA, and requires a deep understanding of modern networking practices and technologies.

Responsibilities :

• Design and implement advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 network configurations to ensure high availability and optimal performance.
• Configure and maintain dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF and EIGRP, along with redundant gateway technologies (HSRP, VRRP, GLBP).
• Deploy and manage firewall policies using NAT, ACLs, and stateful inspection to enforce security standards.
• Troubleshoot application-layer issues for services including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, and HTTPS.
• Manage and optimize Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) configurations, RF tuning, roaming performance, and wireless coverage.
• Implement and maintain Network Access Control (NAC) solutions such as Cisco ISE or Aruba ClearPass (CPPM).
• Support network segmentation using VRFs and assist with introductory BGP and MPLS configurations.
• Monitor network performance, analyze logs, and proactively resolve issues to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate network documentation, participate in change control processes, and contribute to network design and architecture reviews.
