Educational Requirements / Qualifications

• Active New York State license required
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in a clinical laboratory setting
• Demonstrated leadership skills with strong communication abilities
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities

Position Summary

The Laboratory Director oversees all operations of the clinical and anatomic pathology departments and ensures the delivery of high-quality laboratory services. This role ensures regulatory compliance, financial management, and effective team leadership. The Director collaborates with the laboratory’s Medical Director and other departments to support optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all functions of clinical and anatomic pathology and related laboratory services
• Establish and maintain policies, procedures, standards, objectives, and staffing plans in collaboration with the Medical Director
• Ensure compliance with NYSDOH, CAP, and other regulatory/accreditation requirements
• Prepare and manage the annual laboratory budget, overseeing expenditures and revenue
• Lead, mentor, and support laboratory staff; conduct performance evaluations
• Coordinate with other departments to enhance workflows and improve patient outcomes
• Evaluate and adopt new technologies to expand testing capabilities and increase revenue
• Promote a positive, efficient, and collaborative work environment
