Special Education Teaching Assistant

The Special Education Instructional Assistant (Teaching Assistant) is a non-certified assistant to the Special Education Program at the academy. The assistant will:

• Serve students in both general education and special education resource classrooms
• Work to support students in all settings on campus
• Work under the direction of and in collaboration with the certified Special Education teachers and General Education teachers
• Provide 1:1 support for students needing behavioral support

*Additional duties may be included, depending on the experience and expertise of the candidate and the specific academy needs.

Qualifications:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• An interest in reading great books

Education/Certification:

• Associate degree (preferred) or two years/60 credit hours of higher education or a passing score on an appropriate ADE assessment.
• Candidates will need to pass a background clearance process, including the obtaining of an Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Experience:

• The ideal candidate has previous experience in Special Education.
• The ideal candidate has two years previous experience with behavioral support in Special Education.
