Full Time Exempt Quality and Technical Services Engineer Position Summary The Foundry Quality and Technical Services Engineer ensures metal casting processes meet quality standards, using expertise in metallurgy, quality control, and foundry operations to develop, monitor, and improve production from raw materials to finished products.
Assist staff to ensure quality standards are met and issue corrective actions as needed throughout the organization. Assist with the development of current and future product processes. Work with internal and external customers to interpret requirements and manage corrective actions to drive continual improvement.
This role is also responsible for maintaining the sites ISO9001, and other customer required Quality programs. - Communicates Corrective and Preventative actions to Customers as required.
- Schedules and Coordinates Customer Source Inspections and third-party inspections.
- Manages the RMA Process.
- Member of Quoting and Contract Review Team.
- Interpret standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO) and customer requirements to ensure compliance in material properties.
- Assist with new product launch by specifying materials, metallurgical processes, Capability Studies, review and update of PFMEA’s, Control Plans etc.
- Determines Inspection requirements based on Customer Specifications and Internal needs to qualify processes.
- Performs PPAP | First Article | Routine Inspections and documents results as required by Customer Specifications.
Quality Systems
Manages the Companies Layout Inspection and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Program, per the appropriate ASTM Standards.Manages the calibration and repair of NDT and measuring equipment (scales, pyrometers, lab equipment, etc.) for the Foundry and Machine Shop. Evaluates results and provides feedback to the Engineering and Manufacturing Departments.Documents and disposition non-Conforming materials (Scrap, Rework, or request Deviation)Supports Purchasing by participating in on-site inspections.Lead the weekly Corrective action meeting using Fishbone diagram, 5 Why and other tools for root cause analysis of casting and machining issues.Communicates quality issues at the Daily MDI Meeting.Participate in group discussions and team projects as needed.Supervise the Lab and Quality functions at the site.Lead the internal scrap reduction team.Lead the process control improvement team (Sand and Metal).Track and report out on Key Process Input Variables performance.Technical
Analyze and evaluate the chemical, physical, and microstructural properties of cast iron and related alloys.Conduct metallurgical testing and failure analysis to investigate defects and improve casting quality.Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation related to metallurgical findings and process improvements.Develop and maintain metallurgical process controls, including melting, alloying, inoculation, and heat treatment procedures.Training / Production Support / Continuous Improvement
Support Foundry Production Manager, Supervisors, Leads and other employees in all quality & technical related aspects of the manufacturing process.Train employees in the correct procedure for making a quality product.Support and Coordinate with Platform Engineering for construction, modification, and repair and maintenance of foundry tooling as neededMonitor furnace operations and ensure accurate charge calculations, melt temperatures, and alloy additions.Train and mentor foundry staff in best practices related to sand / metallurgical quality and control.Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, casting yield, scrap reduction, energy efficiency, etc.All other duties and tasks that are directed by management that may be assigned to you.Position Qualifications & Competencies
