Schedule hours: M-S 10:00 am - 5:00 pm (29 hours per week)This position is responsible for: Assists in picking up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling
donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating the Truck
Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in
maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards; assists in
performing work in the thrift/family store and warehouse. When needed: Sorting responsibilities; receives,
sorts, prices, and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines the suitability and pricing of
items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the
warehouse area. Cleans and maintains the stores and storage facilities.
Key responsibilities: - Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items; assists in navigating a driver to destinations by reading a map and/or handwritten directions.
- Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
- Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into the truck; packs items in the truck in a manner that maximizes the use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
- Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
- Maintains good relationships with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
- Unloads donations f rom truck upon arrival at the warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.
- Loads a truck of items to be taken to the dump.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions - Work requires riding in a vehicle daily, with exposure to the outdoors, where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat, or discomfort associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
- Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (50-100+ lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility; duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on a frequent change basis, relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
- Work is performed in a stock-room, warehouse, or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in whether; there are occasional discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors, and the like.
