Duke University Health System seeks to hire a Surgical Technologist for our Cardiothoracic Operating Room Unit who will embrace our mission of Transforming Lives, Transforming Care.

The Cardiothoracic Unit at Magnet-designated Duke University Hospital has excellent opportunities for CTOR STs to join our interdisciplinary team.

With 57 total operating rooms, 18 surgeons, and an interdisciplinary team of PAs, RNs, Surgical Technologists, Anesthesia Technicians, Surgical Attendants, and Perfusionists, we perform multiple procedures on patients from pediatrics through geriatrics, including :

CABGs, Valves, VADs, Aortic aneurysms, ECMO, Pediatric congenital cases, VATS,

Esophagogastrectomy,

Nissen Fundoplication.

The team is also responsible for covering all pediatric and adult ECMOs throughout the hospital and all pediatric chest washouts, closures, PDAs, and open chest codes for adults. General Description of the Job Class

• Surgical Technologists (ST) are allied health professionals who assist in the preparation and care of surgical patients ranging from infancy to geriatrics under the general direction of a professional nurse. The ST possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a surgeon's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• The ST who has a dual function in the operating room and the ambulatory setting demonstrates competency in the care of surgical patients preoperatively and postoperatively in the ambulatory surgical clinic setting.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Level I - New graduate with up to 18 months of full-time equivalent experience.

Level II - Perform all the duties and responsibilities of Level I, plus the following :
