Assistant Professor + Sewing Lab Coordinator

Location : Lakewood, CO

Target Salary : $60k - 64k per year

Rocky Mountain College of Art +Design is looking for a Department Coordinator for its Fashion Design hybrid degree programs. The Coordinator serves the Chair and the Program Lead of the Fashion Design Department working closely with faculty and students. The coordinator works closely with academic leadership with a focus on improving student learning and success, supporting faculty, and performing duties as assigned by the Chair and the Program Lead.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • A master’s degree in a RMCAD or closely-related discipline.
  • Basic knowledge base in using Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, CLO3D, and Procreate.
  • Experience in managing a studio space.
  • Applicants whose studio practice and teaching are engaged in the inclusion of diverse perspectives are encouraged to apply.
  • Must live in or relocate to the Denver Metro area.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • A Master of Fine Arts in Fashion or Fashion related fields.
  • Demonstrated and significant knowledge base using Industrial Sewing Machine including; Industrial Lockstitch, Overlock, Safety Stitch, Coverstitch, Merrow, Button Hole, Walking Foot, and Blind Hem.
  • A strong knowledge base in sewing, patternmaking, draping skills, and CLO3D.
  • University-level teaching experience.
  • Evidence of a current, dynamic professional practice and engagement in the field through exhibitions, publications, or similar endeavors.

    • Primary Responsibilities :

  • Teach a minimum of 1 class totaling between 12-20 students within each 8-week term for 5 terms.
  • Courses taught in this role are in the Fashion Design Department. They include but are not limited to Intro to Sewing Basics, Tech Studio I, II, and III.
  • Oversee inventories, orders, and equipment repairs.
  • Create, implement, and administer safety protocols through education and training of all faculty and students, while documenting and authenticating certification of safety training for all facilities users.
  • Establish and track lab utilization metrics of student, faculty, and staff, workshops, and consumable materials provided.
  • Coordinate, develop, and conduct workshops for students and faculty.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.
  • Assist faculty and students with fabrication and design questions.
  • Development and create video tutorials as needed for studio instruction.
  • Support the Institutional Mission, Vision, and Value Statements, and the Department Mission.
  • Participate in program reviews, academic assessment, and / or course development as needed.
  • Attend college events, meetings, and training sessions as determined by the Department Chair.
  • Engage with community organizations and associations that further and promote RMCAD.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned work-study students.
  • Orient and train the members of the faculty, staff, students and the greater RMCAD community on the procedures specific to the Sewing Labs.
  • Mentor and assist students working on fashion events including fashion shows, portfolio submissions, juried shows, and local events [RedBall, Butterfly Ball, Denver Fashion Week, etc.].
  • Contribute discipline-based, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary scholarship that advances knowledge and learning by producing new ideas and understandings (examples can include but are not limited to peer-reviewed articles, texts, chapters, and presentations).
