The Indirect Spend Procurement Manager plays a critical role in managing non-product-related procurement activities across the organization. This position is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for indirect categories such as supplies, packaging, equipment, and services. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong negotiation skills, analytical acumen, and a passion for cost savings and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
- Oversee supplier negotiations, directing RFPs / RFIs and contract execution to secure favorable contracts and pricing for optimal terms and long-term value.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies for indirect categories including MRO, packaging, utilities, and services.
- Conduct spend analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize supplier performance.
- Lead sourcing, category management, and supplier relationship activities across assigned spend areas to ensure supply reliability, cost efficiency, and long-term value creation.
- Develop and maintain category strategies for key indirect spend areas, including packaging, equipment, services, and facilities management.
- Monitor and leverage market insights and supplier innovations to identify opportunities for value creation, risk mitigation, and optimized cost and service outcomes.
2. Contract Management, Governance & Compliance
Oversee contract lifecycle management, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.Conduct audits and implement controls to mitigate procurement risks and prevent maverick spend.Ensure all procurement activities align with internal policies, procedures, and ethical standards.3. Cross-Functional Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and senior leadership to develop and implement category strategies.Partner with operations, finance, maintenance, and other departments to align procurement plans with business needs.Serve as a liaison between internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure service excellence.Conduct regular business reviews with internal departments to align procurement strategies with operational needs.4. Budgeting, Cost Optimization & Continuous Improvement
Manage procurement budgets and track performance against cost saving targets.Implement supplier consolidation and strategic sourcing initiatives to reduce total cost of ownership.Promote supplier consolidation, standardization, and compliance to enhance procurement efficiency and effectiveness.Champion continuous improvement.Identify and resolve inefficiencies in approval workflows and purchasing cycles.5. Risk Management
Identify and assess supply chain risks related to indirect procurement and implement mitigation strategies.Ensure business continuity through supplier diversification and contingency planning.6. Team Leadership
Manage, coach, and develop a team of buyers and senior buyers.Provide clear direction, build capability, and foster an inclusive, performance driven team culture.Additional responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary to support the overall goals and objectives of the position.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field.Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in procurement or strategic sourcing, with a focus on indirect spend categories (e.g., MRO, packaging, facilities, corporate services).Demonstrated success in vendor negotiations, cost savings initiatives, and supplier performance management.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, for data analysis and reporting.Strong communication, analytical, and cross-functional collaboration skills.Preferred
Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related discipline.Professional certifications such as CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management), C.P.M. (Certified Purchasing Manager), MCIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply), or Six Sigma Green Belt.Experience with ERP and eProcurement systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Ariba, Coupa, or Oracle.Background in the seafood, food processing, or manufacturing industries.Familiarity with sustainable sourcing practices and ESG-related procurement strategies.Benefits
