We provide bilingual family programs, school programs, retreats, and research initiatives, with a focus on removing barriers to nature for underrepresented communities.
Cal-Wood has received several national and local awards because of our quality programs and our service to linguistically diverse audiences. Our field instructors receive training in sheltered instruction and other skills to help them effectively teach and connect with all students who visit Cal-Wood, from Commerce City to Aurora to Boulder and beyond. Cal-Wood programs provide dynamic, hands-on science education in the field so that all students can explore, learn, and see themselves as scientists.
Position Overview : We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Development & Communications Assistant to support our fundraising and outreach efforts. This role will allow our Director of Development & Communications to focus on high-level fundraising while ensuring critical tasks are completed efficiently.
Position starts January 20th, 2026.
Responsibilities :
1. Donor Stewardship & Fundraising Support (35%)
Manage donor database enter donations, update records, and generate reports.Prepare revenue reconciliation reports, ensuring alignment between donor records and accounting.Generate donor acknowledgment letters and coordinate other correspondence, ensuring timely and personalized communication.Assist with year-end giving campaigns, including Colorado Gives Day, direct mailers, and digital appeals.Research potential corporate sponsors and grant opportunities, providing summaries for follow-up.Coordinate in-kind donations (e.g., breweries, wineries, local businesses) for events like Music + Moonlight, Calarat, etc.Schedule donor and partner engagement meetings, manage follow-ups, and track relationship progress.2. Communications & Marketing Support (35%)
Support management of social media content (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads) posting occasional updates, event promotions, donor spotlights., and constituent engagement.Assist in writing and editing newsletters, grant proposals, and blog posts.Optimize website content for SEO and readability (experience with CMS preferred).Support design of basic marketing materials (flyers, event programs) using Canva or similar tools.Help maintain a communications calendar to ensure consistency in donor and public engagement.Manage Google Ad Grants to maximize CWEs online visibility and engagement.3. Event & Campaign Promotion (25%)
Provide logistical support for fundraising events (e.g., sending invites, tracking RSVPs, prepping materials).Assist with school / retreats / summer camps / volunteer programs marketing by crafting engaging messaging for upcoming events.Promote events via local media channels (e.g., Eventbrite, online event calendars, local press).Engage relevant groups for cross-promotion, ensuring events reach target audiences.Assist with press releases and media outreach to increase event visibility.4. General Development & Communications Support (5%)
Provide support for other development and communications projects as needed, including research, special projects, and administrative tasks.Qualities and Qualifications :
Bilingual (Spanish-English) strongly preferred.Detail-oriented & organized Can manage multiple projects with efficiency.Strong writer & communicator Can craft engaging donor letters, social posts, and newsletters.Tech-savvy Comfortable with donor databases (Bloomerang), Instrumentl, Stripe, JotForm, social media scheduling tools, Google Drive, Canva, and Google Ad Grants.Fundraising / Nonprofit experience Familiarity with donor relations, sponsorships, grants, or marketing is a plus.Passion for the outdoors & equity in nature Understands CWEs mission and can communicate it authentically.Why Join Us?
