A&M Consulting Engineers is seeking a licensed California Civil Engineer (PE) to join our team and help deliver high-quality infrastructure projects exclusively for public agencies (cities, counties, special districts, and regional / state partners). This role provides the opportunity to lead and manage diverse civil engineering work spanning transportation , water / wastewater, drainage, and general municipal infrastructure—from planning and design through PS&E, bidding support, and construction management.
The ideal candidate brings strong project management skills, practical design experience, and the ability to coordinate effectively with agency staff, stakeholders, and contractors while maintaining compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and manage projects from planning and design through construction support and closeout.
- Develop scopes, budgets, and schedules; track progress and manage deliverables and deadlines.
- Prepare and review engineering plans, details, and technical documents using AutoCAD, Civil 3D (as applicable).
- Coordinate with subconsultants (survey, geotech, environmental) and integrate their deliverables into plan sets.
- Perform field reviews and construction inspections to confirm conformance with plans / specs, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Develop engineer’s estimates, quantity takeoffs, and cost analyses for budgeting and bidding.
- Produce and manage project documentation, memos, and reports; perform plan reviews and markups using Bluebeam (or similar).
- Utilize GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS ) for mapping, exhibits, and spatial analysis.
- Apply hydraulics and drainage design / modeling as needed (e.g., HEC-RAS / HEC-HMS, SWMM ) and support utility / pipeline design.
Transportation / Public Works Tasks (Added)
Prepare roadway and streetscape design packages including typical sections, grading, drainage integration, and roadway cross sections .Develop striping and signing plans , traffic control concepts, and construction staging / maintained access plans.Support intersection and corridor improvements , including coordination for signals / lighting / ITS as applicable.Design and / or coordinate ADA pedestrian improvements (curb ramps, sidewalks, crosswalks), including accessibility-focused plan details and field verification.Support active transportation / Safe Routes to School improvements and public-facing exhibits as needed.Coordinate with agencies and stakeholders on standards, plan check comments, and permitting (including encroachment / permitting support when required).Assist with PS&E development, bid phase support (RFIs / addenda), and construction support for transportation projects.Requirements
Active, valid California Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).Demonstrated experience leading civil engineering projects for public agencies (municipal capital improvement projects, public works, transportation, utilities, etc.).Proficiency with core industry tools such as AutoCAD / Civil 3D , and plan production / review workflows (e.g., Bluebeam ).Strong working knowledge of construction inspection practices, project scheduling, and cost estimating.Strong technical writing and documentation skills.Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality and attention to detail.Strong communication skills for coordination with agency staff, the public, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with California transportation / public works standards and processes (e.g., Caltrans / agency standards, MUTCD / CA MUTCD , local agency standards, PS&E development, bidding support).Experience with drainage / hydrology modeling ( HEC , SWMM ) and municipal utility design coordination.Experience preparing exhibits and supporting public outreach meetings for public infrastructure projects.Company Description
