Position Summary
The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading and executing all aspects of payroll processing across Sunrise's multi-location operations. This role ensures accurate and timely pay for all employees (hourly, salaried, and seasonal H-2B team members), compliance with federal and state regulations, and continuous improvement of payroll systems, reporting, and processes. The Payroll Manager partners closely with Finance, Talent & People, and field leadership to ensure data integrity and a seamless employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations
- Manage biweekly payroll processing for 1,100+ employees across multiple entities, states, and pay types.
- Ensure accurate calculation of wages, bonuses, PTO, commissions, deductions, and reimbursements.
- Validate time and attendance imports from HRIS and scheduling systems (e.g., Aspire).
- Maintain payroll controls and reconcile discrepancies promptly.
- Review and approve all payroll-related general ledger entries and reports.
- Support integration of new HCM (Payroll, HRIS, etc) in 2026
Compliance & Auditing
Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local wage laws (FLSA, overtime, garnishments, etc.).Oversee and file payroll taxes, W-2s, 1099s, and year-end reconciliations.Manage audits and respond to requests from external auditors, workers comp, and government agencies.Monitor changes in payroll-related laws and regulations and update internal processes accordingly.Systems & Process Improvement
Serve as the system administrator for the payroll module within the HRIS.Partner with internal teams to streamline workflows, automation, and reporting.Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for payroll processes.Lead testing, implementation, and optimization of new payroll or timekeeping systems.Leadership & Partnership
Supervise and coach payroll specialists.Collaborate with Talent & People on employee data accuracy, terminations, and compensation changes.Partner with Finance on GL reconciliations, accruals, and forecasting.Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for payroll questions across the organization.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).8+ years of multi-state payroll experience, preferably in a large hourly workforce environment.Experience with high-volume, seasonal, or multi-entity payroll processing.In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations and tax compliance.Strong analytical and Excel skills; ability to reconcile data and identify errors quickly.Proven experience implementing or optimizing payroll or HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Paycom, UKG, etc.).Excellent attention to detail, confidentiality, and customer service orientation.CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred.Success Measures

Compensation
Compensation for this role will be market competitive and will commensurate with experience. More details provided throughout the application. In addition to base salary there is an annual incentive compensation bonus. Sunrise also offers a competitive medical, dental and vision plan, 401k matching and attractive paid time away programs.
