How You’ll Contribute :

As an Information Technology (Application Developer, Java) Intern, you will gain hands-on experience building and supporting applications that help power EquiTrust’s insurance technology solutions. You will work closely with experienced developers and technology partners, learning industry-standard development practices while contributing to meaningful projects.

We are looking for students who are curious, collaborative, and interested in growing their technical and problem-solving skills in a supportive environment.

What You’ll Do :

  • Develop new applications according to specifications, including coding, testing, and documentation
  • Support enhancements and maintenance of existing applications by implementing updates and testing changes
  • Learn and apply development languages, tools, and system development techniques used by the team
  • Partner with a mentor or manager to follow development, documentation, and testing standards
  • Use problem-solving skills to research and resolve technical issues
  • Participate in team meetings, project work, and the internship capstone experience
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment

What You’ll Bring :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university
  • Rising junior or senior preferred
  • Experience :

  • Coursework, projects, or hands-on learning related to application development, computer science, or a related field
  • Prior internship or professional experience is helpful but not required
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Foundational knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Interest in Java and modern application development practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and receive feedback
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience or familiarity with any of the following is a plus, but not required :
  • Programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, or Groovy
  • API development or testing tools (e.g., Postman)
  • Development or debugging tools (e.g., Eclipse, Visual Studio)
  • Build or deployment tools
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer
  • Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 20 lbs.)
  • Use of hands for typing, fine manipulation, and operating office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a typical office environment
  • Where You’ll Work :

    Work Arrangement : Mostly On-Site
