Job Summary / Essential Functions :
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Clinical Dental Assistant provides chairside assistance and clinical support for undergraduate dental students, residents, and faculty members within the Endodontics clinics and labs.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Ensures universal precautions, including the use of barriers on X-ray tubes and microscopes in addition to specific PPE, are consistently followed.
- Sterilizes tools / surgical instruments and disinfects operatory equipment according to OSHA regulations.
- Prepares the procedure room ready for patient treatment and provides chair-side assistance.
- Arranges instruments, materials, and medications on prepared trays as needed.
- Set up dental units : bags chair, places protective sheets on Alabama carts, covers keyboard / monitor, etc.
- Refills all packages required to fill procedure bins and monitors material cabinets throughout sessions.
- Exposes and processes radiographs and takes CBCT scans, as required.
- Assists students and residents in performing X-rays and assists in other clinical departments as needed.
- Transports sensors from x-ray to lecture hall / labs and sets-up supplies / X-ray boxes.
- Stocks procedure room and cabinets, monitors supply levels, and places orders or communicates needs as directed.
- Performs office management tasks.
- Assists with receiving and indexing patient records and makes entries of procedures, materials used, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION : High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE : One (1) year of experience working in a dental office or dental laboratory. Must maintain registration as a licensed dental assistant in the State of Tennessee. Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and Radiology Certification required. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED).
LICENSE / CERTIFICATION : A Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) in the State of Tennessee, with certification in radiology and nitrous oxide monitoring is required. CDA (DANB) certification preferred. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED)
