Job Description :

  • Bioinformatics Engineer Department : Data Science, PIRC Reports to : Director of AI in Drug Development Job Summary : We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Bioinformatics Engineer to join our dynamic data science team.
  • In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting our drug discovery and development programs by building, deploying, and maintaining robust computational pipelines and frameworks.
  • You will analyze complex, large-scale biological datasets (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics) to help identify novel drug targets, discover predictive biomarkers, and understand disease mechanisms.

This position requires a strong technical background in data analysis, software engineering, and computational biology, combined with a passion for applying these skills to solve challenging problems in pharmaceutical research.

  • 6446) and are expanding our global presence with operations in the U.S., Japan, China and Korea, along with a world-class biologics production facility in Taichung.  This role will be in the PharmaEssentia Innovation Research Center (PIRC), the US R&D center for PharmaEssentia.
  • As PIRC is essentially in startup mode with the full backing of PharmaEssentia HQ, this is an exciting time for PIRC and the Data Scientist will have great influence in developing and growing PIRC from the ground floor up.

    • Key responsibilities Pipeline & Framework Development :

  • Design, build, optimize, and maintain scalable, reproducible bioinformatics pipelines for the processing and analysis of large-scale omics data.
  • Build internal computational frameworks for multi-omics integration and visualization to generate novel biological insights.

    • Data Analysis :

  • Perform comprehensive analysis of genomic and transcriptomic datasets and proteomics to support target identification, validation, and biomarker discovery efforts.

    • Tool & Infrastructure Management :

  • Implement and manage computational tools, workflows, and databases.
  • Utilize cloud computing and containerization technologies to ensure our infrastructure is efficient and scalable.

    • Collaboration :

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including bench scientists, biologists, and clinicians, to understand experimental design, interpret complex data, and communicate effectively.

    • Innovation & Methodology :

  • Stay current with the latest computational biology methods, algorithms, and software.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance our team's analytical capabilities.

    • Documentation :

  • Maintain high-quality documentation for all code, pipelines, and analyses to ensure reproducibility and compliance.

    • Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or relevant quantitative discipline 2+ years of relevant post-graduate experience, preferably in a biotech or pharm setting Strong programming skills with expertise in at least two of the following :

  • Python, R, Java, C#.

    • Familiarity with database management (SQL, NoSQL) Demonstrated experience in building and managing automated bioinformatics workflow Working knowledge with machine learning algorithms, Deep learning frameworks, LLM and AI agent, and their applications in drug discovery Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and HPC environments Good understanding of biology Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented, cross-functional environment Preferred Qualifications Experience in a therapeutic area relevant to oncology and immunology Familiarity with software development best practices and version control Experience with data lake EEO Statement :
