Description

Front Office Sports is seeking a full-time

News Editor

to join our fast-moving newsroom of driven reporters and editors covering the business of sports.

The ideal news editor has an indefatigable appetite for identifying, assigning, editing, and publishing news and must have excellent communication, feedback, and multitasking skills to work with reporters and work interdepartmentally with the multimedia and social teams.

The News Editor will report to the Editorial Director of News, who reports to the Editor in Chief.

Key Responsibilities

Work with reporters and editors to identify news and ideate fresh angles

Ability to edit copy quickly and cleanly, and think critically about headlines and framing

Time management ability to get through breaking news stories, and also edit longer-term stories and weekend features

Work hand in hand with those building the daily flagship newsletter, The Memo

Familiarity with sports media, specifically sports television programming and the companies and networks that air sports programming

Work hand in hand with the social team on framing our news stories on social platforms and the multimedia team on ideas for videos tied to our news stories

Represent the newsroom on social media by sharing our stories

Willingness to hand-raise and grab news edits in off-hours when possible

Protect and uphold FOS's quality and credibility as a reputable journalistic outlet

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

5+ years of experience in an editorial role, preferably in sports and / or business news.

Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.

Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and editorial tools.

In-depth knowledge of sports industry trends, news cycles, and audience engagement.

Demonstrated ability to develop and execute content strategies that drive engagement and audience growth.

Team-player and player-coach attitude

Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
