Division Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery-Duke Health Durham NC

The Department of Surgery at Duke University Medical Center is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery . Candidates must hold the academic rank of Professor or Associate Professor and have board certification in colon and rectal surgery, with completion of a colon and rectal surgery fellowship.  The successful applicant will be a nationally recognized leader with an outstanding record of clinical excellence, research achievement, educational accomplishment, and mentorship. Highly desirable attributes include involvement in national committees or professional societies, prior experience in recruitment and retention of faculty, and development of clinical programs. This is an excellent opportunity to develop and guide a strategic vision for a new Division within a world class health system that is experiencing significant clinical growth.

Key components of the Chiefs role :

• Providing strategic vision and leadership to the Division.
• Fostering an environment of innovation, scholarship, and collaboration.
• Oversee the recruitment, retention, and mentorship of faculty, staff, and trainees, while advancing Dukes core values.
• Cultivating the Divisions research portfolio, supporting basic science, translational, and clinical research, and encouraging cross-disciplinary collaborations within and beyond the Department of Surgery.
• Oversee the continued growth of educational programs for medical students and residents, and the development of a colon and rectal surgery fellowship bringing Duke to the forefront of training the next generation of leaders in colon and rectal surgery.
• There is an anticipated need to recruit 3-5 new colorectal surgeons in the next 3-5 years.
