Position Summary
The Field Safety Coordinator (FSC) provides hands-on safety support to active construction projects and field teams. This role is focused on implementation, verification, and follow-through of Reeders established safety programs and expectations. The FSC works under the direction of the HSE Director and in close partnership with Superintendents, Project Managers, subcontractors, and support teams to close non-compliance items, reinforce safe work practices, and support consistent execution of safety requirements across all projects.
This is a field-forward, support-driven role, not a policy-development or strategic position.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Field Support
- Provide direct on-site safety support to active projects.
- Act as a safety resource to Superintendents and project teams to help solve field-level safety issues.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings, subcontractor kickoff meetings, OAC meetings, and internal coordination meetings as needed to support safety execution.
- Assist project teams in planning high-risk work activities and coordinating safe sequencing of work.
- Support project teams in managing schedule pressures while maintaining safety requirements.
SPA / PTS (Safe Plan of Action / Pre-Task Safety)
Review subcontractor and self-perform SPA / PTS submissions for completeness and alignment with Reeder standards.Assist subcontractors and field teams in correcting and strengthening SPA / PTS documents.Verify approved SPA / PTS plans are being implemented in the field.Support Superintendents in addressing gaps between planned tasks and actual field conditions.Elevate recurring or systemic SPA / PTS issues to the HSE Director.Inspections & Non-Compliance Closure
Conduct routine, scheduled, and targeted field safety inspections.Document findings and work collaboratively with field leadership to close non-compliance items.Track corrective actions and verify completion.Assist subcontractors with practical corrective action planning.Identify recurring deficiencies and communicate trends to the HSE Director.Subcontractor Safety Support
Support subcontractor onboarding by reinforcing Reeder safety expectations and project-specific requirements.Serve as a field-level point of contact for subcontractor safety questions.Assist Superintendents and Project Managers with subcontractor safety coaching and corrective actions.Reinforce compliance with ISD, owner, and project-specific safety requirements.Incident & Near-Miss Support
Assist the HSE Director with incident, injury, and near-miss investigations.Collect field-level documentation, photos, witness statements, and supporting information.Support implementation and verification of corrective actions.Communicate lessons learned to field teams and subcontractors as directed.Safety Observations & Reporting
Review safety observations and field documentation in Raken and other project platforms.Support improvement in the quality and consistency of safety documentation.Identify trends, recurring hazards, and behavioral issues and elevate findings to the HSE Director.Training & Field Reinforcement
Support field-level safety orientations and task-specific safety briefings.Reinforce required training expectations already established by the HSE program.Verify training documentation is present and current at the project level.Serve as a field resource to help teams interpret and apply safety training requirements.Emergency Preparedness (Field-Level)
Verify emergency response plans are posted and communicated at project sites.Ensure emergency equipment (first aid kits, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers) is available and maintained.Support emergency drills and response readiness at the project level.Safety Culture Support
Promote a supportive, solution-oriented safety presence in the field.Build trust-based relationships with Superintendents, foremen, and subcontractor leadership.Encourage proactive hazard reporting and near-miss reporting.Reinforce Reeders safety expectations through daily field interaction and coaching.Role Boundaries
This position :
Does not develop or own corporate safety policies.Does not lead strategic safety planning or executive reporting.Does not replace project leadership accountability.Does not function as a compliance-only or administrative role.The HSE Director retains ownership of strategy, policy, training systems, compliance programs, and regulatory oversight.
Experience & Qualifications
Required
5+ years of experience in construction-based HSE or field safetyStrong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926Experience supporting active construction projects for a General Contractor or major trade partnerAbility to work effectively with Superintendents, Project Managers, and subcontractorsStrong communication and field-coaching skillsWillingness to travel between project sitesPreferred
