Position Summary
The Program Director is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the delivery, quality, and growth of Houston Strongs core programs. This role ensures that services are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and aligned with licensing standards and organizational values. You will supervise program staff, manage contracts, and collaborate across departments to drive impact, innovation, and sustainability.
This position is ideal for a visionary leader with deep experience in child welfare, program development, and team managementsomeone who thrives in dynamic environments and is committed to building legacy-rich systems of care.
Key Responsibilities
Program Oversight & Development
- Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of foster care, adoption, SIL, and hospital sitting programs
- Ensure all services meet DFPS licensing standards and reflect best practices in trauma-informed care
- Monitor program performance, outcomes, and compliance metrics
Staff Supervision & Culture Building
Supervise program managers, coordinators, and direct service staffProvide coaching, performance reviews, and professional development opportunitiesFoster a collaborative, mission-driven culture rooted in accountability and compassionContract & Compliance Management
Oversee contracts, budgets, and reporting for state and private fundersPrepare for audits, licensing visits, and grant renewalsEnsure documentation and data systems are accurate, timely, and secureCommunity Engagement & Strategic Partnerships
Represent Houston Strong at stakeholder meetings, coalitions, and advocacy eventsBuild relationships with referral sources, service providers, and community leadersCollaborate with leadership on strategic planning, fundraising, and expansion effortsQualifications
Bachelors degree required, Masters in Social Work, Public Administration, or related field preferred5+ years of experience in child welfare, nonprofit program leadership, or human servicesStrong understanding of licensing standards, trauma-informed care, and family systemsProven ability to lead teams, manage contracts, and drive program outcomesExcellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skillsBilingual (Spanish / English) a plusCore Values
