as a director in our Gene Therapy team at the Boston Seaport location. This role focuses on advancing AAV clinical gene therapy, leading a group of scientists, driving innovation in AAV process development, and partnering with GMP manufacturing. The team operates in a biotech‑like environment within Lilly, seeking a creative leader to grow our gene therapy portfolio.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of scientists engaged in upstream and downstream AAV vector production discovery, research, and early development.
Oversee established projects, collaborate closely with GMP manufacturing scientists, and drive process innovation.
Participate with senior management in evaluating new therapeutic opportunities and interface with various therapeutic area scientists.
Provide technical leadership to improve deployment of genomic technologies and scalable processes.
Integrate and execute LGM strategy; clarify priorities and focus for the team.
Coach talent and scientific leaders, providing feedback, managing workloads, and evaluating career development.
Allocate resources, prioritize projects, and monitor deliverables and timelines.
Maintain safety culture and operational excellence.
Advocate for diversity, inclusion, and high‑quality scientific hypotheses.
Basic Requirements
PhD in chemistry, engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field.
7–10+ years of industry experience leading process development research, with preference for AAV expertise.
Additional Skills / Preferences
Experience leading diverse, high‑performing research groups.
Proven track record in designing, implementing, and maintaining genetic medicine pipelines.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical discovery and development processes.
Leadership of PhD‑level researchers and strong relational and collaborative skills.
Strategic thinker, identifies gaps and drives continuous improvement.
Experience in tech transfer and working in a matrixed environment.
Excellent organizational skills.
Additional Information
Occasional travel to collaborate across Lilly functions.

Compensation & Benefits
Anticipated base salary : $158,250–$275,000. Full‑time employees are eligible for a company bonus and a comprehensive benefits program, including 401(k), pension, vacation, medical, dental, vision, and wellness benefits.
