Assistant Fitness Director

Principal Responsibilities:

Under the Direction of the Program Director, the Assistant Fitness Director develops plans, organizes, and implements programs and services for the MJCC Fitness Department. In the absence of a Director, this position may be responsible for the overall management of the Fitness facilities. Work is performed under general supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained.
Position Status: Full-time; Salaried; Non-Exempt

Responsibilities

-Use excellent customer service skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees and members.
-Assist in training of fitness floor employees; enhance skills and growth to benefit the MJCC.
-Stay current on industry trends by reading publications and attending continuing education seminars.
-Fosters a teamwork environment.
-Be prepared to teach class on a regular basis and fill in as a substitute when needed.
-Assume primary responsibilities for the development, implementation and instruction of group exercise classes. Instruct (5-7) classes per week.
-Analyze and evaluate the Group Exercise program on a continual basis making recommendations that will contribute to the success of the fitness center.
-Learn to prepare work schedules within agreed upon payroll budgets.
-Ensure that the exercise equipment is safe, clean and in proper working order.
-Communicate information regarding products, policies, training, and promotions.
-Provide guidance and motivation to employees and sub-contractors so they achieve peak productivity and performance.
-Keep abreast of industry to incorporate into fitness center operations.
-Participate in opening, closing and weekend coverage, as well as daily floor time supervision and fitness center desk coverage (as needed.)
-Acts and makes decisions in the best interest of the MJCC.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in fitness science or a related area.
1 - 2 years' experience working in a fitness or wellness environment.
Nationally recognized Group fitness certification required and various group fitness disciplines
CPR/AED/First Aid certification
Practical experience in group fitness
Strong customer service skills and an outgoing personality
Excellent communication and verbal skills.
