Special Education Teacher - Bernalillo, NM

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

This Special Education teaching opportunity is based in Bernalillo, NM, serving a K-12 treatment center school environment. The position is a full-time, year-round contract role supporting middle and high school students, primarily grades 7-9, many of whom face challenges related to anger management and substance abuse.

Responsibilities include managing a classroom of approximately nine students with the support of 2-3 staff members, delivering specialized instruction, and fostering a safe and productive learning environment. The school operates Monday through Friday, with class hours from 8:00 AM to 1:20 PM on most days and an earlier dismissal on Wednesdays. The schedule allows ample time for lesson planning and collaboration.

Preferred qualifications and experience:

• Valid New Mexico dual license in Special Education or General Education with an appropriate endorsement
• Experience working with students who have behavioral and emotional challenges
• Ability to maintain composure and resilience in a demanding environment ("thick skin")
• Commitment to student success and a collaborative team approach
• Willingness to complete CPI and CPR training offered by the employer
