Starting salary will be based on experience. The salary range is $52,513.15 - $136,586.91 annually.

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES :

This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all activities of the Bureau of Prevention which is primarily responsible for the fire prevention and regulatory activities.   The bureau is composed of four sections, operating nine field offices throughout the state, a headquarters office and the Miami-Dade Construction Mining Program.  Staff are assigned responsibilities involving the inspections of state-owned and state leased buildings, plans review for new state construction or renovation to any state-owned or leased properties, boiler safety inspections, and regulatory oversite and licensing for five major industries. .  Incumbent should have broad knowledge of code, legislative and rule development and the ability to cultivate and foster a wide range of stakeholder input within the areas of responsibility.

Specifically, the position formulates and administers policies and procedures of the bureau and administers the policies and procedures of the Division of State Fire Marshal and the Department of Financial Services.  This work includes but is not limited to the following : Modifying and Adopting the Florida Fire Prevention Code (FFPC) and Administrative Rules pertaining to the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Planning and implementing long and short -range goals to perform work tasks most effectively with available resources.  This involves determining workloads in geographic areas, assigning positions to areas of need, developing and implementing improvements to current programs and projecting future personnel and equipment needs.  Supervision may be of a general nature to determine an employee’s work productivity, compliance with procedures, or to provide guidance of a technical nature concerning an inquiry, complaint, or inspection.  Supervision may be very specific in other cases involving employee discipline or efforts to improve an employee’s performance abilities

Prepare correspondence as necessary on matters relating to duties and activities of the bureau. Monitor and perform legislative bill analysis.   Respond to telephone and electronic inquiries from bureau personnel, general public, fire departments, law enforcement agencies, municipal and county governments, insurance companies, prosecutors, regulated industries, architects, engineers, and other departments within State government and Federal governmental agencies.  Coordinate with others on bureau budget development and monitor bureau spending as compared to approved budget thresholds.

The incumbent of this position is a member of DFS’s Disaster Response Team and in that capacity may be required, on short basis, to perform duties and necessary travel in support of disaster relief efforts. Participates in training exercises involving firefighting and urban search and rescue operations in support of the State Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. Responds to disaster scenes of firefighting and urban search and rescue field operations as tasked by the State Emergency Operations Center. The incumbent of this position is considered to have regulatory and fiscal responsibilities and is subject to all related provisions of the Florida Administrative Code.
