Job Title : Interventional Radiology Technologist Profession : Technologist Specialty : Procedural Assistant Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Day Hours per Shift : 10 hours Experience : Minimum 1 year in Interventional Special Procedures setting in either IR and / or vascular hybrid setting License : ARRT Radiography Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) - Instructor Must-Have : Required special / advanced procedure registry Description : Functions under the direction of the clinical coordinator and / or department manager. The interventional special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. He / she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in utilizing the equipment for the diagnosis and / or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He / she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for the procedure. Able to perform procedures in both the IR and vascular hybrid interventional procedural setting. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions : Clinical Skills Completion of VI competencies. Able to use critical thinking skills. Work in conjunction with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and cardiologists. Prepares the patient for the procedure. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for the procedure. Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedures. Departmental Responsibilities Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs. Able to work scheduled and on-call. Knows existing lines of communication and authority. Handles communications properly. Introduces self to patient and / or guardian utilizing proper scripting. Transports patients as needed. Provides privacy and comfort for patients and customers. Assists with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Regulations, and performance improvement. Completes necessary paperwork. Answers departmental phone using proper scripting. Maintains stock levels and outdates. Maintains current license and BLS certifications. Assists in in-service training for other medical imaging staff as appropriate. Works as a team with other staff to obtain the best possible outcome. Performs any other duties as needed when asked by leadership. Quality and Patient Safety Verifies patient ID using two patient identifiers, for example, armband, DOB, verbal identification. Verifies front of patient chart for same / similar name sticker. Verifies written order and consent, seeks clarification if order or consent is unclear. Uses and understands pre-procedural verification / time-out form. Understands and complies with site / side marking when indicated. Patient Education Responsible for patient, family, and support system education. Provides post-procedural home care instructions as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
