Objective :

The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for leading complex tax engagements across a variety of industries while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws. This role combines technical tax expertise, client advisory, and team leadership. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills, effective communication, and a commitment to high-quality client service in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Essential Functions :

• Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and nonprofit organizations.
• Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax documents in compliance with applicable regulations and deadlines.
• Conduct technical tax research and analyze findings to provide solutions and recommendations tailored to client needs.
• Lead or participate in tax planning strategies for clients, including identifying areas of opportunity or risk.
• Guide team members during complex tax engagements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal standards and tax regulations.
• Assist with IRS and state audits by preparing responses, gathering documentation, and representing clients when needed.
• Collaborate with other departments (e.g., audit and accounting) to deliver seamless, cross-functional service to clients.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of firm-wide best practices, particularly in areas of tax process improvement and workflow efficiency.
• Use tax and accounting software such as UltraTax, QuickBooks, and AdvanceFlow to complete engagements and optimize output.
• Maintain accurate and complete client records in accordance with firm policies and security protocols.

Competencies :

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may supervise staff accountants and interns during client engagements. Reports to a Manager or Partner depending on assignment.

Position Expectations & Work Environment

This is a full-time salaried exempt position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works normal office hours (with guilt-free flexibility). Some weeks over 40 hours will be required.

Location & Travel

Based in Springfield, MO; Fayetteville, AR; or Branson, MO, but also serves employees in all Abacus! physical locations and those working remotely.

Required Education & Experience

Minimum bachelor's degree in Accounting. Master's in Accounting and CPA designation preferred. Preferred experience with Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, UltraTax, and AdvanceFlow. Must pass a CJIS background check.
