One Physics has been certified as a "Great Place to Work" 3 years in a row as well as "Best Workplaces in Healthcare" in 2022 and 2023 by Fortune. One Physics employees enjoy the support and flexibility of their roles while exhibiting a passion for excellence in all areas of their work. We create a culture where employees feel valued and ensure our communities are receiving the best-in-class treatment they deserve.

The Role

The Health Physicist will support medical facilities, research institutions, and industrial clients by overseeing and implementing radiation protection programs to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices in radiation safety. This role includes evaluating and managing occupational and public radiation exposure, conducting shielding evaluations, developing safety protocols, and advising on facility design. The Health Physicist will serve as a subject matter expert in radiation protection and will work closely with Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs), regulatory agencies, and operational staff. This position is based in the TX area and is an exempt role.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct audits and inspections of radiation safety programs to ensure compliance with NRC, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and review Radiation Protection Programs and related procedures for medical, academic, and industrial clients.
  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret occupational radiation dosimetry data; provide consultation and corrective action plans for exposures exceeding ALARA thresholds.
  • Assist with incident response involving potential or actual radiological exposure, contamination, or loss of radioactive material.
  • Conduct shielding evaluations and design reviews for radiological facilities, including new construction and renovation projects.
  • Perform area surveys, contamination checks, and exposure assessments for controlled and unrestricted areas.
  • Consult with clients and regulatory bodies on licensing and registration of radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices.
  • Provide technical expertise during inspections by federal or state regulators and assist clients in preparing for and responding to audits.
  • Deliver training and educational sessions on radiation safety, ALARA principles, emergency response, and regulatory compliance to radiation workers and ancillary staff.
  • Serve on or support Radiation Safety Committees (RSCs) and provide technical guidance in decision-making processes.
  • Maintain records, prepare documentation, and generate reports required by regulatory authorities and accrediting bodies.
  • Support clients with radioactive waste handling, storage, and disposal, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Perform additional duties, as needed.

What You’ll Need

  • Board certification by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP), or eligibility demonstrated through completion of a recognized training program in health physics or a related field.
  • Substantial experience in radiation protection, compliance auditing, and regulatory interface in medical, industrial, or academic settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of NRC and state regulations, NUREG guidance, and applicable ANSI, NCRP, and ICRP standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and organizational ability in managing projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt solutions to client-specific challenges.
  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and excellence in service.
  • Physical Requirements

A consulting physicist’s job can be physically demanding at times. A typical day may require the health physicist to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time wearing a lead apron, lift various pieces of test equipment, move mobile diagnostic medical equipment between rooms at a facility and drive between client facilities. Drive times may exceed 60 minutes to, from and in between client facilities. The physicist must have the ability to lift 50 lb test equipment cases to a height of 3-4 feet, load and unload the cases from a vehicle and transport the equipment into and around the client facility.
