[job_card.job_description]Manage tax practice operations effectively while meeting critical performance metrics including billing targets, realization goals, days outstanding objectives, and individual charge hour requirements Ensure adherence to quality control standards across all tax engagements and compliance deliverables Serve as internal tax advisor and recognized Tax Subject Matter Expert on complex tax issues May participate as a member of the Senior Operations Management Team, contributing to firm-wide strategic decisions Serve as primary tax advisor and trusted business counselor for key client relationships Work directly with clients to understand their tax challenges and provide strategic tax planning solutions Maintain exceptional client service standards that reinforce long-term tax advisory relationships Drive client satisfaction and retention through proactive tax planning communication and value delivery Lead and manage tax professionals across multiple client engagements and service areas Foster a collaborative team environment that demonstrates support for tax department initiatives and builds positive workplace culture Mentor and develop tax team members to achieve their professional goals and contribute to firm success Champion firm values and maintain high standards of professional conduct in tax practice Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field Active CPA license required Master’s degree in Taxation (MST) or LLM in Taxation strongly preferred Minimum 8 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting At least 6 years of tax team supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership success Proven track record of tax practice business development and revenue generation Experience managing multiple tax client relationships and complex tax engagements Deep technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations Exceptional organizational skills with ability to manage tax deadlines, work on multiple tax assignments, and prioritize effectively during busy season Strong verbal and written communication abilities to explain complex tax concepts to clients and team members Proven high level of business integrity, tax advisory excellence, and leadership capabilities Proficiency with tax preparation software, tax research platforms, and professional applications Ability to travel based on tax client and business needs Flexibility to adapt to changing tax regulations and client demands Experience in specialized tax areas (international tax, M&A, state and local tax, etc.) Track record of successful tax practice development and client portfolio growth Previous experience on senior tax management teams or leadership committees Advanced knowledge of ASC 740, FIN 48, and tax provision requirements Expertise in specific tax technical areas supporting Subject Matter Expert designation Experience with complex tax structuring and controversy matters Proven tax practice development acumen with demonstrated results in revenue growth Strong strategic thinking and tax planning capabilities Experience mentoring and developing tax professionals Track record of building and maintaining long-term tax advisory relationships Direct influence on tax practice strategy and business development initiatives Opportunity to shape tax service offerings and growth trajectory Potential participation in Senior Operations Management Team Leadership role in driving tax practice culture and technical excellence Senior-level tax position with significant autonomy and decision-making authority Recognition as a trusted tax advisor to key clients and internal stakeholders Opportunity to serve as Tax Subject Matter Expert in specialized areas Platform for tax thought leadership and industry involvement Clear pathway to tax partner and ownership opportunities Comprehensive tax leadership development and business skills training Support for advanced tax certifications and continuing education Networking opportunities with senior tax professionals and industry leaders Competitive compensation reflecting senior tax leadership responsibility Performance-based incentives tied to tax practice development success Full benefits package with executive-level perquisites Flexible work arrangements that support work-life integration during non-peak seasons
Our Tax Director position represents the pinnacle of tax practice leadership, combining strategic business development with operational excellence and client relationship management. As a Tax Director, you’ll drive revenue growth while leading high-performing tax teams and serving as a trusted advisor to our most valued clients on complex tax matters.
This role offers significant autonomy and leadership responsibility within our established tax practice, where you’ll shape tax strategy, develop new opportunities, and potentially serve on our Senior Operations Management Team. We’re seeking accomplished tax professionals who can balance technical tax expertise with business acumen while building lasting client relationships that drive sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Revenue Growth
- Expand revenue streams from existing client relationships through strategic tax planning services and value-added tax solutions
- Develop and execute comprehensive business development plans, including personal marketing strategies and new tax client acquisition initiatives
- Meet established business development revenue expectations through new client additions and cross-service tax opportunities
- Lead short-term and long-term business planning efforts, identifying strategic growth opportunities for both the tax practice and broader firm initiatives
