Job Summary :

Reporting to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services the Survivor Advocate will provide emergency and ongoing support services and assistance to students and employee victims / survivors / complainants who are victims of Sexual Assault (SA) Domestic Violence (DV) Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and stalking by assessing their needs identifying appropriate referrals and plans of action.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide crisis intervention advocacy and accompaniment to survivors during meetings with University Police Title IX law enforcement court proceedings and medical or counseling appointments.
  • Assist survivors with completing civil and domestic violence restraining orders and Victim Compensation paperwork.
  • Serve as an advisor during investigations hearings and meetings with the Office of Student Conduct & Ethical Development.
  • Collaborate with the Title IX Office and community partners to develop and implement campus-wide education prevention and awareness programs addressing sexual assault dating / domestic violence and stalking.
  • Lead and participate in outreach efforts workshops and presentations for classes student organizations and campus events.
  • Maintain strong partnerships with campus departments local rape crisis centers and advocacy organizations to ensure coordinated 24-hour services.
  • Develop annual goals objectives and assessments for survivor advocacy services; ensure alignment with university mission and social justice priorities.
  • Prepare monthly annual and grant-related reports on advocacy programs and outcomes.
  • Provide lead work direction training and supervision to student assistants who deliver peer education and outreach programming.
  • Oversee student assistant hiring scheduling workflow and payroll in accordance with university and federal work-study guidelines.
  • Mentor students interested in careers related to advocacy and social services.
  • Serve on campus and system-wide committees and participate in trainings and conferences to enhance survivor support and advocacy efforts.
  • Perform other duties related to program goals and student well-being as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications : Required Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division graduate course work continuing education or professional development in diversity / multiculturalism counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.

Experience :

Possession of these areas of knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising diverse students individually and in groups and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.

Required Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of the policies procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.

General knowledge of the policies practices and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned; general knowledge of the principles problems and methods of public administration including organizational personnel and fiscal management; general knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.

Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions.

Advise diverse students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters.

Determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature.

Reason logically and analyze and solve organizational and operating problems of one or several program areas.

Plan coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations.

Analyze and define complex organizational policy or procedural problems collect and evaluate data draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.

Understand the roles and responsibilities of others and gauge relationships accordingly by considering issues of diversity the variety of the interrelationships motivations and goals of the members of the organization served.

Establish and maintain effective cooperative and harmonious working relationships in circumstances which involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view.

Preferred Qualifications

A masters degree in Counseling Clinical Psychology Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling guidance or a job-related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional personal or career counseling.

Compensation and Benefits :

Anticipated Hiring Range : $6320 - $6952

Classification Salary Range : minimum $6320 - maximum $9014

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical dental and vision plans membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) sick and vacation time and 15 paid holidays a year. Position Information :

Work status : Full-time / Exempt / Probationary

Academic year schedule : Monday through Friday (8 : 00 am 5 : 00 pm) some evenings / weekends.

Summer schedule : Monday through Thursday (7 : 00 am - 5 : 30 pm) some evenings / weekends.

Conditions of Employment

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and / or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Drivers License Check

Possession of a valid Drivers License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid drivers license and reflects driving record.

Mandated Reporter

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
