Police Officer
The City of Cottonwood Heights is seeking qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Full-Time Police Officer. Our officers serve a thriving community nestled at the base of the Wasatch Mountains, with a strong commitment to professionalism, service, and integrity.
Under the direction of a department sergeant, this position performs a variety of law enforcement duties, including patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, and community engagement. The probationary period for this position is twelve (12) months.
Key responsibilities include:
- Responding to calls for service involving life, safety, and property (e.g., robbery, burglary, domestic disputes, theft, vandalism).
- Conducting preliminary investigations, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and making arrests.
- Preparing and filing accurate reports, including case files, arrest records, and citations.
- Performing routine patrols and traffic enforcement using radar and Intoxilyzer equipment.
- Assisting the public and promoting positive community relations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a current Utah POST Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) certification in good standing.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age.
- Must possess or obtain a valid Utah driver's license prior to employment.
- Must successfully complete an in-depth background investigation.
Compensation
- Hourly pay range: $32.55 $49.16, depending on experience, education, and certifications.
- Previous law enforcement experience and certifications may be considered when negotiating starting pay, at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
- Shift differential: 2% for swing shift and 5% for graveyard shift.

Hiring Process
