Animal Control Officer
The City of Billings is seeking candidates for an Animal Control Officer position. The Animal Control Officer is responsible for participating in the more complex and difficult work of animal control staff. The officer is also responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks related to assigned areas of responsibility. Salary Range : $26.1380 - $27.4683 per hour. Salary reflects Step 5 and Step 6 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon applicant's education, experience, and training. Work Schedule : Four (4) 10-hour shifts per week. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Patrols assigned areas. Captures and impounds unlicensed, stray and uncontrolled animals. Removes dead animals from roadways. Snares animals with net, rope or other devices. Cages or secures animals in Animal Control vehicles. Supplies food, water, and care to detained animals. Notifies owners of impounded animals. Examines detained animals for illness or injury. Delivers animals to veterinarians for medical treatment. Identifies and records breed and gender of animals. Administers inoculations to animals. Euthanizes animals. Disposes of remains. Investigates complaints concerning animals creating nuisances and takes appropriate action. Writes reports. Responds to calls regarding animal bites. Quarantines animals for rabies observation. Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner. Provides information within the area of assignment. Resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Investigates reports of animal abuse. Issues warnings and citations for violations of ordinances. Testifies in court. Examines dog licenses for validity. Issues warnings or summonses to delinquent owners. Assists Police Department in handling animals involved in police activities and cases. Performs Other Duties as Assigned.
Required Qualifications & Skills : High school diploma or equivalent. Possession of, or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire, State license as a Euthanasia Technician. A valid Montana driver's license is required or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, and a Federal and State criminal history background check. Requires occasional moving items weighing up to 60 pounds.
