Position Summary :
Join our dynamic team as the Director of Fleet Operations, where you'll take charge of overseeing the maintenance, safety, and operational excellence of our wide-ranging fleet of passenger vehicles. This pivotal role is essential in ensuring our fleet operates at peak efficiency, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. We’re looking for a candidate with extensive technical expertise, hands-on fleet maintenance experience, and a strong background in leading teams, managing budgets, and optimizing parts procurement.
Key Responsibilities :
- Fleet Operations & Maintenance :
- Direct all maintenance operations for our diverse fleet, including diesel motorcoaches, cutaways, shuttles, vans, and gasoline vehicles.
- Implement preventative and corrective maintenance programs to ensure all vehicles meet DOT and company safety standards.
- Oversee the scheduling and execution of routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Leadership & Training :
- Mentor and support technicians of varying experience levels while promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Develop and lead training programs for new hires and ongoing development for existing staff.
- Establish performance standards for technicians and conduct thorough evaluations.
- Financial & Asset Management :
- Craft and manage the fleet maintenance budget, focusing on labor, parts, and equipment expenditures.
- Monitor costs related to repairs, fuel usage, parts inventory, and vehicle downtime, ensuring financial efficiency.
- Partner with finance and procurement teams to drive cost-effectiveness without sacrificing safety or quality.
- Parts & Inventory Control :
- Manage parts purchasing and vendor relationships to streamline inventory processes.
- Guarantee the prompt ordering and availability of parts and supplies to minimize service interruptions.
- Compliance & Safety :
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including DOT, EPA, and OSHA standards.
- Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Conduct audits and lead any necessary corrective actions.
- Technology & Reporting :
- Utilize advanced fleet management systems to track vehicle performance and maintenance schedules effectively.
- Analyze operational data to identify trends and implement strategic enhancements.
Qualifications :
7+ years of advancing fleet management experience within the passenger transportation sector.Extensive knowledge of diesel engines, emissions systems, and electronic diagnostics.Experience managing a varied fleet of motor coaches, shuttles, vans, and gasoline vehicles.Proven track record in developing technicians, leading teams, and enhancing operational efficiency.Strong skills in budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.Familiarity with DOT, EPA, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.Proficient in using fleet maintenance software (e.g., RTA, Fleetio, or similar).Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required).Preferred Qualifications :
ASE Certifications (especially in Medium / Heavy Truck or School Bus series) preferred.Technical degree or certification in diesel technology or automotive mechanics is preferred.Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.Work Environment :
Office and shop floor setting.Occasional travel between various company locations or to vendor sites.On-call responsibilities for emergency repairs or incidents.This position is on-site.
