Chipton-Ross is seeking a Structural Engineer 3 for a contract opportunity in Newport News, VA
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE) :
- 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Requires a subject matter expert (SME) providing technical oversight for various structural and mechanical systems on the floating dry dock. The engineer will be required to develop a cohesive working relationship with utility system operators, maintenance personnel, and dock masters. The candidate must have knowledge of structural design, mechanical design, or naval architecture.
- PPE : Hardhat, safety glasses, safety toe shoes.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :
Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within assigned system(s)Provide engineering resolutions for system problems / configuration changesProduce and / or oversee the development of technical documentation that govern the system design, configuration, and operationProvide in field technical support of maintenance and project teamsDevelop a long range strategic plan for improvements to assigned dock system(s)Participate in the development of planned maintenance requirementsSupport resolution of unplanned eventsDevelop and maintain critical system metricsParticipate in project design and implementation process for system related projectsOversee project / system testing to ensure system meets technical requirements and operates at peak performanceSupport internal and external audits of the floating dry dockREQUIRED EDUCATION :
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program is required.
WORK HOURS :
5 / 40 workweek. First Shift 7 : 00AM-3 : 30 PM
Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
