Summary / Objective

The Senior Estimator develops project estimates and schedules for civil construction projects ($2M-$40M), interprets contract requirements, and mentors junior team members. Experience in heavy highway, earthwork, bridge, and utility construction.

Essential Functions

  • Interpret bid documents and construction plans.
  • Conduct quantity takeoffs from project plans.
  • Define project scope and required disciplines.
  • Identify subcontractor roles and DBE participation to meet project goals.
  • Identify constructability issues and value engineering opportunities.
  • Coordinate pre-bid activities and owner inquiries.
  • Prepare and review project estimates and schedules ($1M-$40M).
  • Mentor junior estimators.
  • Create and deliver project bid packages.
  • Oversee junior estimators.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field (preferred).
  • 5-10+ years of civil construction estimating experience.
  • Familiarity with Department of Transportation specifications.
  • Experience using HeavyBid or similar estimating software.

    • Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience in heavy highway, earthwork, bridge, and utility construction.
  • Prior work with NCDOT.
