About the Role
At Love146, the Controller plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, efficiency, and transparency of financial operations. This position offers the opportunity to steward and introduce improvements to the organization’s financial backbone from the lens of continuous improvement, overseeing accounting, reporting, compliance, and internal controls that support mission-critical work to protect children from trafficking and exploitation.
The Controller is a systems-oriented, detail-focused financial professional, responsible for managing the day-to-day finance operations while also helping scale infrastructure to support growth. This individual is a key partner to the CEO and a partner to department leads, ensuring accurate, timely, and insightful financial information to guide decision-making and sustainability. The Controller will lead financial operations with a deep commitment to accountability, collaboration, and the organization’s mission and values.
What You’ll Do
Lead Financial Operations
Lead all day-to-day accounting / bookkeeping activities, including accounts payable / receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, general ledger management, and monthly closePrepare and maintain accurate internal financial reports, statements, and dashboards to support operational and leadership decision-making.Oversee and improve the development of and compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and audit readiness across the organization.Budgeting, Reporting & Grant Compliance
Collaborate with program and development teams to lead grant budgeting, fund allocations, and reporting compliance.Manage accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds, proactively identifying grant spending needs, underspend, or reallocation opportunities in conjunction with programs leadership.Identify and lead any budget modifications necessary to ensure accurately and timely spenddown for all grants.Serve as the primary financial contact for all grants, particularly JustGrants, and prepare and submit timely financial data for grant reporting and compliance requirements in collaboration with the CFO and Development staff.Maintain real time understanding of and compliance with all Federal and state government funding requirements.System & Process Optimization
Optimize financial systems and workflows, particularly Sage Intacct, for streamlined reporting, forecasting, and department-level dashboards.Work with Love146’s outsourced accounting firm to ensure data integrity, automation, and full realization of software capabilities.Monitor and support the automation of budget vs. actual reporting and real-time access for budget owners.Support Strategic Financial Leadership
Provide real-time financial insights and modeling to inform organizational strategy, cost allocations, and funding renewals.Conduct audit prep, risk mitigation, cash flow reporting, and sustainability modeling.Maintain strong documentation and processes to ensure knowledge transfer and compliance continuity.Team Collaboration & Development
Supervise bookkeepers, ensuring task completion and skills development.Collaborate with program directors and managers to ensure financial fluency and understanding of budgets and grant obligations.Foster a culture of financial clarity, accountability, and service to mission across the organization.What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)6–8+ years of nonprofit financial operations experience, with 3+ in a Controller or supervisory roleProven success managing complex funding streams (federal / state grants, private foundations, donor restrictions)Deep knowledge of GAAP , fund accounting, and audit processesTechnical fluency with Sage Intacct and Microsoft Excel (required); Salesforce experience a plusStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills — especially with non-finance audiencesWho You Are
