General Counsel - Insurance Policy, Legislative & Regulatory Affairs (Part‑time)

Location : Central Monmouth County

Salary : $100K‑$120K

On‑site two days per week; remote balance; travel required for association meetings. Role Overview

The General Counsel will serve as the organization's chief legal advisor, supporting the development of model legislation, coordinating and staffing policy meetings, and ensuring legal integrity across all initiatives. Ideal Candidate

  • Retired insurance attorney or regulator seeking meaningful part‑time engagement
  • Current or former legislative staff counsel
  • Lawyer returning from a professional hiatus looking to ease back into legal work
  • Private practitioner able to integrate this role into their portfolio without conflicts

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant legal experience in insurance regulation, legislative affairs, and / or public policy
  • Strong understanding of state‑level insurance law, particularly the McCarran‑Ferguson framework
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders

  • Open to a less experienced lawyer with a minimum 4‑year background in insurance law or public policy, though on a near‑full‑time basis
