Job Title: Supplier Quality Engineer - Body & Trim
Location: Foster City, CA (Onsite Position)
Duration: 6 months
Job Description:
  • this role, you will work with the vehicle systems engineering team to assess the manufacturability of new product designs. You will work with strategic sourcing managers to assess supplier readiness for company vehicle build events, identify and highlight risks related to production ramp and collaborate/report on risk mitigation plans.
  • We're looking for someone with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or a related Engineering degree. You have in automotive manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, driven, energetic, detailed and team oriented.
As a Supplier Quality Engineer - Body & Trim, you'll:
  • Work with engineering and strategic sourcing managers to select appropriate suppliers with the right manufacturing knowhow by conducting detailed supplier process assessments/audits and provide feedback.
  • Conduct CAD model and print reviews with suppliers to access design for manufacturability, collaborate in investigating/developing new manufacturing techniques (if necessary) to meet the design requirements.
  • Lead the Supplier Industrialization Roadmap (SIR) thereby conducting product/process development activities and capability assessments at the supplier manufacturing site.
  • Manage and improve the APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) process with suppliers from initial design stage through PPAP submission and all the way through SOP (start of production).
  • Be responsible for training and setting up the supplier in the company supplier quality portal.
  • Review prototype and production parts quality document submissions from suppliers, and provide feedback.
  • Lead RCCA analysis with suppliers, issue corrective actions, provide support with immediate containment and short term/long term permanent corrective actions.
  • Update supplier process documentation with the changes to the manufacturing process.
  • Provide support to manufacturing, quality, and vehicle engineering teams regarding analysis and disposition of suspect supplier material.
  • Analyze and report the incoming supplier part quality metrics for the assigned supply base for the following:
  • First Article Inspection reports, Cp/Cpk analysis, Pareto, Statistical Process Control, and Process Capability Studies.
  • Drive continuous improvement throughout the supply base using quality and lean manufacturing tools.
  • Up to 20% domestic travel required, occasionally on short notice.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or equivalent engineering degree
  • 3+ years of experience in quality, supplier quality, or manufacturing in one of the following industries:Automotive, aviation, computer, or medical device OR combination of both supplier quality and internal plant quality development experience
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing processes (. metal stampings, machining, welding, assembly, coating, plastic injection molding, composites
  • Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) creating and improving quality systems
  • Experience using problem-solving techniques (. Six-Sigma, 8-Discipline, Pareto Charts, Regression Analysis, ANOVA, DOE, Fish Bone Analysis, Red-X)
  • Experience with core process control tools (. Process Flow Diagrams, Process FMEAs, Process Control Plans, SPC, MSA, Process Capability)
  • Working knowledge of the following:
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, tooling and fixture verification and validation, and final buy off at the supplier
  • Quality and automotive systems (. ISO 9000 and IATF 16949)
  • Solid knowledge of conducting supplier assessments, APQP and PPAP, product launch, and vendor ramp experience
  • Fully literate in Microsoft computer applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications such as CQE from ASQ, Six Sigma Green Belt, certified Quality Systems Auditor
  • Experience working with Google Workspace
