LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE SERVICES
1. Administer immunizations, generate encounter creations, and will perform phlebotomy services during the week of processing. Augment clinical nursing support within the trainee health flight during the absence of other team nurses due to illness, leave or deployment.
2. Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and / or MD / DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
3. Once onboarded, ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.
4. Initiate, perform, and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.
5. Navigate Electronic Medical Record (Genesis) software to order studies, medications, create lab labels, and armbands for a large population, verifying for accuracy.
6. Performs independent, comprehensive triage, telephonically, face to face, and via secure messaging to assess the severity of the patient's condition and the need for provider intervention. Telephone and in-person assessment / evaluation includes the determination of optimal time and location for patient management (ER, clinic, home care) and follow-up care as required.
7. Effectively documents nursing care delivered in the ambulatory care setting, both written and electronic, of all activities in accordance with unit / medical treatment facility requirements.
Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals.
8. Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality, and cost effectiveness.
9. Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.
10. Performs / assists with procedures such as administration of oxygen, visual acuity tests, EKGs, irrigation of eyes and ears, tympanograms, splinting, phlebotomy, and other clinic-specific procedures, in accordance with established protocols.
11. Ensures all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift.
12. Ensures preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed.
13. Ensures medication / supplies are replenished.
14. Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
15. May be required to work various shifts or augment clinical nursing support during the absence of other team nurses due to illness, leave or deployment.
16. Collaborate with the physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or clinical nurse specialist in the health care / education of patients.
17. Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.
18. Complete assigned patient care based on the patients' conditions, use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize, report, and record relevant patient information.
19. Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes.
20. Observe, identify, and respond to the patient's needs for care, including medication, equipment assisted care, and patient / family education.
21. Prepare and administer prescribed medications ( oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and / or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies / procedures.
22. Promote preventive and health maintenance care, to include annual physical / health assessments, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
23. Provides instructions to patients relevant to health maintenance, birth control, etc.
24. Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with (JAW) unit guidelines.
25. Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
26. Serves and participates in committees, functions, and other meetings as directed. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups and assists with decision-making and process improvement initiatives. Participates in customer service initiatives designed to enhance health services.
27. Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits, and patient safety JAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.
28. One year of practical or vocational nurse experience in a clinic, lab, or immunizations. Must have strong computer skills.
29. Support with the processing of up to 900 trainees in initial entry in a 5-day work week.
30. The work to be performed at under this contract will be Joint Base San Antonio, 59th Medical Wing. Licensed Vocational Nurse shall receive notification two weeks prior to the reassignment to another location with a 40- mile commuting radius of their assigned MTF.
