Job Summary

The Duke Pediatric Abdominal Transplant Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) provides direct patient care services for surgically ill pediatric (aged 0-21 years) patients on an intensive care, intermediate and / or step-down unit or in the clinic in collaboration with residents and surgeons. There may be rare occasions for which it would be appropriate for a CPNP to provide care for a patient beyond the age of 21 for a limited / specified period of time. The APP performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates the care and discharge of patients, may assist in the operating room and provides direct patient care services. The APP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching and provides leadership in the organization.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

NP : Graduate of an accredited MSN or DNP Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program.

PA : Graduate of an ARC accredited Physician Assistant program, Master's or Doctoral Degree preferred.

Licensure

NP : Current unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as an NP

PA : Current unrestricted medical license issued by the NCMB with authorization to practice as a PA

Both : Federal and State DEA, unrestricted prescriptive authority.

Certification

NP : PNP-AC is the only NP type being considered for this role. (NO FNPs or PNP-PCs will be considered.)

PA : PA-C

Experience

Prior experience as a Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant in a pediatric acute care clinical setting strongly preferred but not required. New graduates welcome to apply.

Physical and mental requirements

Job Hours

Primary hours will be 14 12-hour shifts / month 6a-6p Monday-Sunday including holidays. This includes rotating in the outpatient transplant and hepatology clinics. Schedule may be modified by the clinical or leadership team.
