Registered Nurse - Oncology Inpatient Care

The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care on the oncology inpatient unit. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager / Clinical Coordinator, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising individual patient care according to established unit policies and procedures. You will also supervise non-RN staff and take on charge responsibilities when required, ensuring high-quality service at all times.

Responsibilities

• Continuously assess the physical and psychosocial condition of patients throughout their care journey.
• Develop and document individualized care plans that involve the patient, family, and healthcare team to achieve desired outcomes.
• Implement and coordinate care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans based on patient responses and readiness for discharge, making adjustments as needed.
• Identify educational needs of patients and families, providing tailored education and documenting outcomes.
• Act as a mentor and preceptor for new staff.
• Oversee unit operations in the charge nurse role.
• Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to maintain department efficiency.
• Demonstrate competency in caring for neuro patients and provide specialized skills in neuro assessment and airway management.
• Assist with special neuro procedures and possess knowledge of the 'Tia' teaching program.
• Perform suctioning according to policy, including pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy procedures.
• Show proficiency with equipment used for patients in halo braces and manage nursing responsibilities for ventilated patients.

Qualifications

Education :

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and able to utilize internet resources for patient care literature.

Licensure :

Valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License.

Full-time and part-time schedules are available on night shifts or rotating days and nights.
