Program Director, Immigrant Justice Program
Join Asian Law Caucus as Program Director for our Immigrant Justice Program (IJ Program). This role will guide a diverse team of attorneys and community advocates, lead systems‑change initiatives, and partner with senior leadership to advance ALC’s mission protecting immigrant communities, particularly Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities, including Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (AMEMSA) communities.

Compensation
Annual salary $130,000–$174,709, based on experience.
Start Date

Overview
The Immigrant Justice Program advances due process and equal protection for all, regardless of immigration status, by ending detention, discrimination, and systemic harm; and building a humane immigration system that keeps families and communities together. The Program Director will provide vision, leadership, and mentorship to our team, collaborate with other ALC programs, and serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee program goals and strategies in partnership with the Executive Team (Chief Strategy Officer, Legal Director, Policy Director, Communications Director).
- Lead community engagement strategies and ensure successful execution.
- Identify intersecting Immigrant Justice work with other programs and coordinate strategies.
- Collaborate with Development staff on grant proposals, reporting, and fundraising events.
- Maintain technical expertise on immigration issues impacting clients and communities.
- Build relationships with grassroots partners, advocacy groups, legal organizations, and government officials.
- Represent ALC in conferences, coalitions, and meetings; communicate program scope and impact.
- Engage with funders through analysis and opportunity identification in partnership with leadership.
- Lead, manage, and mentor team members, establish accountability and work‑plan implementation.
- Develop and manage program budget aligned with organizational goals.
- Recruit, hire, and supervise staff attorneys and community advocates.
- Contribute to organizational strategy and decision‑making as a leadership team member.
- Promote a healthy culture of collaboration, accountability, and inclusive leadership.
Qualifications
J.D. and California bar membership required.Minimum eight (8) years of relevant experience in immigration and / or removal defense, constitutional and civil rights, with a legal services, policy advocacy, and / or state / federal court litigation approach; experience in a nonprofit is ideal.Proven experience managing and supervising staff (3–5 years).Excellent research, analytical, written, and oral communication skills.Experience working with external counsel or in coalition settings; conflict‑resolution skills.Deep expertise in sanctuary, denaturalization, visa processing, and enforcement policies and practices.Experience with national security issues is highly desired.Ability to conduct long‑term visioning and strategic planning for the program and organization.Commitment to building power for and with grassroots communities.Experience with AAPI and AMEMSA communities impacted by immigration and / or criminal legal system is highly desired.Problem solver, team player with sense of humor; non‑English language skills in AMEMSA or Asian languages are a plus.Leadership & Team Management
