Infection Prevention Program Director

This role is labeled hybrid and will require on-site attendance at Fifth Avenue Place in Pittsburgh, PA.

General Overview :

Responsible for designing, implementing and directing a system-wide infection prevention program. This includes, but is not limited to, surveillance, analysis, reporting, data collection and ensuring regulatory requirements / standards are in compliance. Directs and facilitates network-wide efforts to ensure that the IP Program is managed using a data-driven and process improvement focus and are aligned back to strategic initiatives. Develops and communicates the strategic vision, scope and tactics related to Infection Prevention. Assures that network-wide initiatives are focused and aligned on achieving defined targets, improving operational effectiveness and optimizing efficiencies. Develops, deploys and coordinates communication and education programs to support the ongoing learning of the AHN teams and its key stakeholders. Ensures data is available to key stakeholders in a timely way and actionable format. Provides ongoing analysis to leadership on Program status, estimating year-end achievements and recommendations for further action.

Essential Responsibilities :

• Responsible for the development of network Infection Prevention strategy, direction of the AHN Infection Prevention Program and the oversight of such functions across the various network organizations, inclusive of hospitals, ambulatory centers and medical practices. In collaboration with key stakeholders, designs the network surveillance program for hospital associated infections, guided by an annual IP risk assessment process. (20%)
• Standardizes processes across the network for surveillance, counting and reporting of infections. Responsible for streamlining administrative work associated with IP data collection and required reporting. (10%)
• Provides oversight of required reporting to federal, state and accrediting bodies. Ensures timely, consistent and accurate reporting within required timeframes. Provides oversight of the analysis, interpretation and dissemination of IP data to key stakeholders, including but not limited to, the Board of Trustees, AHN Executives, leadership, physicians and staff. (10%)
• Partnering with marketing, develops and deploys a network communication and education plan around Infection Prevention. (15%)
• Collaborates with leadership, physicians and staff to develop evidence-based prevention programs and deploy tactics that will aid in improving outcomes. Working with key stakeholders, create network forums to strategize, design, share best practices and lessons learned around Infection Prevention. (20%)
• Collaborates with internal departments (Emergency Management, Occupational Health, Life Safety) and external agencies such as CDC, DOH, etc. to investigate exposure to communicable diseases. (10%)
• Responsible for development and communication of network Infection Prevention policies according to and in compliance with external regulating bodies. (5%)
• Engage physicians and other key stakeholders to ensure understanding, collaboration and participation in the programs. Responsible for working and building relationships across the network at various levels of employees, inclusive of, but not limited to, senior leaders, middle management and staff in various acute care and ambulatory settings. (10%)

Qualifications :

Minimum : Master's degree in healthcare related field or business; Certification in Infection Control (CIC) to be obtained within 12 months of hire date. Incumbents in the role prior to 11 / 01 / 2025 are exempt from this requirement. 10 years in healthcare; Management experience; 5 years managing Infection Prevention; CPR American Heart Association; Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate; Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate; Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Preferred : Bachelor's in Nursing, Microbiology or Epidemiology OR Masters in Public Health OR Certified Medical Technologist; Network management experience; Valid PA RN licensure
