The primary patient population includes cardiovascular and vascular surgery patients. Procedures include open heart surgery, thoracic lung surgery, and various vascular surgeries. The unit also receives overflow medical cardiology patients with conditions such as heart failure and sepsis. There are 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds available. Staffing includes approximately 100 team members. Day and night shifts have a charge RN and multiple RNs and PCTs. Patient-to-staff ratios are 1 : 5 for RNs and 1 : 13 for PCTs. Equipment used includes IV pumps and various patient lifts. The EMR system used is Cerner. Candidates should have experience with telemetry and may have experience in CV surgery. The typical procedures performed on the unit include epidural management, chest tube management, and IV glucocommander management. The ideal candidate is a team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is flexible. Weekend requirements involve a minimum of 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule period.
