Job Description
American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU (PICU) night shift position requiring EVD and trach / vent skills and a BSN.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with a 12-bed capacityNight shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with weekends as neededNurse to patient ratio is 1 : 2Patients include those with trachs, vents, DKA, respiratory and surgical needs (trachs, g-tubes, shunts, hernia repairs, seizures), no cardiac casesRNs required to titrate drips including propofol, fentanyl, epinephrine and othersFrequent floating to Peds, NICU, and mandatory sitter assignmentsUse of Epic for charting and Alaris pumpsRNs read and interpret their own telemetry stripsNo nurse aides or patient care techs on the unitTeam includes a charge RN on each shift, with a pediatrician in-house during the day and on-call at nightResponsibilities include caring for critically ill pediatric patients, titrating drips, managing advanced equipment, and floating as neededMandatory floating to related pediatric units and fulfilling patient sitter duties as assignedRNs may schedule up to five shifts in a block if it meets unit needsOrientation includes two 12-hour unit-specific shiftsMust be willing to work at least one holiday per contract as requiredAny color scrubs are permittedFirst-time travelers will be considered for this positionPermanent former employees must wait one year before returning as a travelerRequirements
Active ID or compact RN license at time of considerationBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) requiredAt least 2 years of recent PICU experience requiredCurrent BLS and PALS certifications requiredExperience with EVD and trach / vent care requiredExperience with Epic EMR and Alaris pumps preferredAbility to titrate critical dripsTwo professional references required : one supervisor reference from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the past 3 yearsCopy of driver’s license requiredMust reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facilityBenefits
