Prevention of illness and injury, and alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses and advocacy in care are key responsibilities. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. This compliance is in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, relevant policies, scope and standards of practice, the Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The RN manages a group of patients, serving as a primary nurse and / or accountable nurse based on unit assignment and safety considerations. Educating patients and families in health promotion and disease management is a crucial task. A working knowledge of pharmacology is required to safely administer medications according to policy. The RN shares in responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization including staffing, time management, supplies, and services. Compliance with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and relevant policies is essential. Actively participating in and supporting shared governance is expected. This includes supporting the unit council, participating in improvement initiatives, and contributing to peer review practices. Engaging in professional development, continuing nursing education, and completing mandatory education requirements are necessary. Integrating nursing research and current evidence into practice is essential. Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students is expected. All values must be followed. The RN will perform other duties as assigned.
