Senior Manager, Platform Engineering (Global Payment Network Test Tooling)

This candidate will lead the selection, implementation, and management of test automation tools and frameworks to ensure product quality and efficiency in software development and other testing solutions.  This leadership role requires deep expertise in test automation strategies, modern tooling, and technical leadership, along with strong skills in managing test teams, developing strategies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate new tools and best practices into the development lifecycle.

What you’ll do :

Lead, mentor, and develop teams of test engineers and automation specialists, fostering a culture of continuous improvement for the Global Payment Network line of business.

Provide training to Software Development Engineers, QA and architect resources on quality strategies, standards, tools, and processes. Work closely with quality assurance teams and functions to help, grow, and improve the test processes and skill sets for the Global Payment Network line of business.

Drive innovation and efficiency by identifying and implementing new testing processes, methodologies, and standards aligned to Capital One for the Global Payment Network line of business.

General Responsibilities :

Work with product owners to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios

Continuously improve software engineering practices

Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies

Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience and scalability of your solutions

Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community

Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization and diversity

Utilize scripting languages like Python, SQL, Ruby and groovy, Container Orchestration services including Docker and ECS, CM tools including Ansible and Terraform, and a variety of AWS tools and services

Lead, mentor, and develop teams of test engineers and automation specialists, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Proven ability to lead and mentor teams, set goals, conduct reviews, and manage resources effectively.

Develop and refine test automation strategies, and oversee the selection, implementation, and ongoing management of test automation tools and frameworks.

Provide technical guidance on modern test tooling, automation techniques, and best practices.

Experience in developing and implementing test strategies, roadmaps, and operational excellence plans.

Work closely with project managers, developers, QA teams, and other stakeholders to integrate test tooling into the broader development process.

Identify and mitigate risks associated with testing processes and tool adoption, ensuring smooth project execution.

Deep understanding of test automation tools and frameworks (Selenium, BrowserStack), scripting languages (Python, Java), and cloud-native environments.

Familiarity with agile methodologies, software development life cycle (SDLC), and industry best practices for quality assurance.

Basic Qualifications :

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification

At least 8 years of experience using build and deployment tools (Jenkins, GitHub, or Artifactory)

At least 6  years of experience with AWS

At least 4 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications :

7 + years of experience with AWS

4+ years of functional testing and non-functional testing experience

4+ years of experience experience using Serenity, Playwright, Cypress, Squish or Jmeter

2+ years of experience in Agile practices

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Riverwoods, IL : $175,500 - $200,300 for Sr. Manager, Platform Engineering

Chicago, IL : $175,500 - $200,300 for Sr. Manager, Platform Engineering

McLean, VA : $193,000 - $220,300 for Sr. Manager, Platform Engineering

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and / or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
